Dear HBCSD Community Members,

In this week's "From the Desk of..." there is much to share - on top of the list is most certainly our work in response to the COVID-19 Corona virus.

To our families, in addition to caring for and now facilitating daily teaching routines with your chidlren, we recognize that you too are facing uncertainty, anxiety, possible medical and financial concerns during this pandemic. Please remember that there is no instructional manual for this situation, please allow yourself the grace to experiment, learn, breathe, and celebrate the positive victories no matter how small in the worst of circumstances. We are so very grateful for you and for the amazing community that we serve.

As a student and staff safety are our highest priorities, in less than three weeks since schools closed...

Dear HBCSD Community Members,
This week in "From the Desk of..." I'd like to highlight several items from this week's Board of Trustees meeting and bring you up to date on our continuing work to plan for the 2020-21 school year.

As I noted in my first edition of From the Desk of... our HBCSD community's strengths are indeed our key assets to ensure our schools are the best they can be. Evidence was on display at our February 18, 2020 Board of Trustees meeting as the Board acknowledged and celebrated nine staff members who are exemplars of the high quality support provided by HBCSD's California School Employees Association, Chapter #316. Among these individuals two members will be recognized at the County level, and may be considered for State level recognition. Additionally, Board members and staff shared their experience from their prior week at the California Distinguished School Award ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel. Our 2020 distinguished school awardee, Hawes Elementary School makes us proud in being awarded its third California Distinguished/Gold Ribbon School Award in six years!

With regard to planning for the 2020-21 school year, at this meeting... (Click below for the full message!!)

Dear HBCSD Community Members,
It is my pleasure to reach out to you today with my first edition of "From the Desk of..." to share current events in and around our schools. As you may be aware, HBCSD is making a push to enhance communications between the District and our stakeholders. To do my part, From the Desk of... will be an ongoing effort to provide perioodic updates to our community about HBCSD's programs, challenges, progress and accomplishments. In this first message, I'd like to touch upon our strengths, the current issues HBCSD faces and share our work to address these issues as we look forward.
