School Consolidation Task Force Committee
At the February 11, 2020 Special Board meeting, the HBCSD Board of Trustees adopted Resolution S-24-19/20 which authorized the establishment of a School Consolidation Task Force Committee.
At the January 28, 2020 Regular Board meeting the Board of Trustees adopted a Fiscal Stability Plan which outlines the necessary budget reductions that must occur. Part of those reductions is the closure of an elementary school.
Although not mandated, the California Department of Education "Closing a School Best Practices Guide"
recommends the use of an expanded District Advisory Committee before decisions are made about school closures. The Board desires to appoint an expanded District Advisory Committee which will include 11 community stakeholders.
The members of the School Consolidation Task Force shall be representatives of the Trustee-Areas as adopted by the Board. The Board will select two (2) members from their respective Trustee-Areas to serve on the School Consolidation Task Force. The Superintendent shall select one (1) member at-large.
The Committee shall identify two (2) Elementary Schools for the Superintendent and Board to consider when determining one (1) school for closure, not later than April 10, 2020.
