Computer Lab
The computer lab is an exciting place at Peterson where students learn fundamental computer skills that they are able to carry with them through their school careers. Students begin learning in programs such as Microsoft Word starting in kindergarten, with the complexity of the tasks progressing as the students make their way through each grade level at Peterson. Students are introduced to Excel and PowerPoint in third grade and go on to conducting supervised Internet research in fourth and fifth grades. Upper-grade students are also exposed to image editing where they learn about cropping, adjusting colors and inserting completed images into applications and printing.

The computers in the lab were recently purchased by both PTA and school site funds. There are currently over thirty student workstations in the lab, which are all part of the school network where students can save their work to a dedicated file server (which can be accessed campus-wide). The computer lab has two laser printers for normal printing and color inkjets for printing graphics and photographs. Classrooms visit the lab once per week, with visits being utilized for lessons, practice and research. Mr. Levitz, the computer lab teacher at Peterson, provides a special computer lesson to students in the lab once a month.
